Why Bi-Colored Sweetcorn?

Sweetcorn is a summertime staple at most households and for good reason. Sweet corn (which is different from field corn, typically fed to livestock or used in many food products you buy) can be eaten fresh, grilled, boiled and smothered in butter, roasted, and seared.

It also has some surprising health benefits as well. One is that sweetcorn can promote eye health with its supply of carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin. And who doesn’t need that with this age of screens all day long.

To help you be ready for those summer bbqs, we got a jump start on our corn production this year.

Starting in mid-May we planted 4 varieties of sweet corn with successive plantings each week to ensure a steady supply all summer. These varieties include Serendipity and Allure. Serendipity has been a long time go-to for our farm because of its sweet, robust flavor. We love to eat this variety straight out of the husk, especially when the corn is just hitting peak ripeness. Another of our favorite ways to enjoy these is to smoke it on our Traeger grill.

Corn should be arriving at our stand around the beginning of August, and you can cook up this tasty side to suit your next bbq. See you later this summer!
